Cloudberry is an incubating project under the Apache Software Foundation, derived from the commercial MPP (Massively Parallel Processing) database Greenplum, which in turn was originally based on PostgreSQL. Historically, Greenplum remained closed-source and was primarily designed for on-premise environments. In 2024, Cloudberry made its debut as an open-source project, introducing next-gen unified database support for MPP AI platform architecture.
