This talk is to introduce an automatic image recognition system, which utilizes deep learning and pictures from the Wikimedia commons as the main data source for supervised Machine learning model. This system is built based on a database of images of common butterfly species in Taiwan labeled with scientific names, commons names in Chinese, and identifiers for whether it is an endemic species in areas of Taiwan. It allows the user to search with a static image of a butterfly observed in a nature environment setting. Challenges faced and preliminary results of this project during formation process will be discussed in this presentation.
