SONA: A Telco Driven Cloud Native Network Management Solution
IB401 11:20 ~ 12:00 MandarinAs the world’s first 5G mobile network service provider, SK Telecom (SKT) has been intensively using network function virtualization (NFV) and software-defined network (SDN) technology to change the way their infrastructures are architected, implemented and operated. We have witnessed that physical network function (PNF) has been gradually replaced by virtual network function (VNF), and VNF will be eventually transitioned to containerized network function (CNF) in near future. To align with this transition trend, we initiated the Simplified Overlay Networking Architecture (SONA) project in 2016, aims to manage carrier-grade data center network by leveraging SDN technology. SONA is an ONOS based open source project, provides an integration with both open source and commercial cloud platform (e.g., OpenStack, Kubernetes), leverages a set of network virtualization technologies to provide fully independent overlay network for telco services. To align with the recent cloud native trend, we extended the SONA to fully support all Kubernetes networking model. In this presentation, we will provide technical details on how to realize kubernetes networking model using ONOS, and show how SONA can be used to support CNF for 5G services.
